- Who can use the Maltepe University Library?

The Maltepe University Library primarily serves Maltepe University students, academic and administrative staff, and researchers. Academic staff, PhD and graduate students from other universities may also use the library’s services and resources for research purposes upon evaluation of their request

- How can I register to use the Library and Information Center?

Students’ information is automatically transferred from the Student Information System to the Library Automation System. Therefore, students do not need to register separately.

- What are the opening hours of the Library and Information Center?

During the academic term, it is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Please check our website for detailed working hours.

- How can I access library materials?

All books in our collection are cataloged in the Yordam Library Automation System and can be searched via the catalog search tool on the library website. Searching is also available off-campus.

- How can I borrow and return books?

The library uses RFID Smart Library Systems. Users can locate materials through the website, catalog kiosks, or by asking library staff.

Using the open-shelf system, the user finds the book and performs the borrowing/return transaction using the self-check device. Staff assistance is available when needed.
No material may be taken outside the library without borrowing it.

Returned materials remain under the user’s responsibility until the return process is completed. Users are liable for any damage, loss, or wear.

- How many books can I borrow?

  • Undergraduate / associate students & administrative staff: 5 books for 20 days, renewable 2 times unless requested by another user.
  • Graduate students: 20 books for 20 days, renewable 2 times.
  • Academic staff: 20 books at once, renewable 3 times.

- Is library orientation provided?

Yes. At the beginning of each academic year, orientation and database training sessions are held for new students and repeated throughout the year.

- What are the library behavior rules?

Everyone visiting the Library and Information Center is considered to have accepted the following rules:

  • University ID card must be shown when requested.
  • Silence must be maintained; disruptive behavior is prohibited.
  • Mobile phones must be on silent mode; phone conversations are not allowed.
  • No food or beverages are allowed inside (except water).
  • All spaces, including group study rooms, must be kept clean.
  • Personal belongings must not be left unattended; the library is not responsible for lost items.
  • Belongings left for more than 30 minutes may be removed by staff.
  • The library must be used for study and research purposes only.

- Please be aware that the library is monitored by security cameras.

In emergencies, users must follow staff instructions.
All incidents, damage, or security issues must be reported immediately.
Library spaces are monitored 24/7.

- How is library hygiene ensured?

Books returned by users are disinfected using an ozone-based sterilization device before being shelved.

- What resources can we access from the library website?

Printed and electronic catalog search, subscribed/trial/free databases, user guides, statistics, new publications, academic staff publications, and full access to graduate theses.

- How are materials classified?

Books are arranged on open shelves according to the LC (Library of Congress) classification system.

- Are photocopying, printing, and scanning services available?

Yes. Photocopy and printing services are provided by the on-campus Reprography Unit.

- What is the “Cep Kütüphanem” mobile app?

It is a mobile application developed in cooperation with YORDAM that enables users to access library services from mobile devices.

Through the app, you can:

  • Search library materials
  • View your borrowed books
  • Renew loans
  • See your fines
  • Place holds on materials

User ID = staff ID number / student number.

- What is the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) System?

A free service enabling users to borrow books or obtain documents (articles, theses, conference papers, etc.) not available in our collection from national or international libraries.

Users may borrow up to 3 books via ILL.
Loan conditions depend on the supplying library.

- How are study rooms used?

Study rooms are available by reservation, for 2 hours, and require at least 4 users.

- What are copyright rules?

Copyright is protected under Turkish Law No. 5846.
No copyrighted work, including textbooks, may be copied, reproduced, or distributed outside legal limits. Users are responsible for any violation.

- I am not a member of Maltepe University. Can I use the library?

Non-members may apply with a petition to the General Secretariat or the Library Directorate. After evaluation, approval or rejection is communicated.

- Is internet access available in the library?

Yes. The library offers 25 computers with internet access, and wireless internet is available for personal devices.

- I am a Maltepe University graduate. How can I use the library?

Graduates may fill out a form at the Library Directorate to request usage permission.
Due to copyright restrictions, alumni do not have remote access to databases.

- Can I photocopy an entire book or journal?

No. According to copyright law (FSEK), copying an entire work is prohibited.
Users may not copy, reproduce, or distribute whole books or journals.
Any legal consequences are the user’s responsibility.

- Can databases and electronic journals be accessed off-campus?

Yes, but only for members of Maltepe University using their institutional email accounts at:
kutuphane.maltepe.edu.tr/vetisbt/

- Do users have wireless access with their own laptops?

Yes. WiFi is available throughout the library.

- How can I access electronic resources?

Registered users can log in with their username and password at:
kutuphane.maltepe.edu.tr/vetisbt/

- What are the late return fines?

The fine is 1 TL per day per item.
Fines up to 20 TL are not collected.

- Can I borrow journals?

No. Journals may only be used inside the library.

- What if the boo I need is already borrowed?

You can place a hold on the book.
After it is returned, it is kept for 3 days for the user who placed the reservation.

- Can I borrow or renew books on behalf of someone else?

No. Borrowing and renewing must be done by the user themselves.
Only returns can be made by someone else.

- Can I bring food or drinks into the library?

No. Only water is allowed.
Food, beverages, tobacco, and alcoholic products are not permitted
